Frequently asked questions

No, pet insurance isn't a legal requirement in the UK, but it can protect you from vet bills that run into the thousands of pounds, and many policies also include public liability cover if your dog injures someone or damages property.

Lifetime policies reset your claim limit every year for as long as you renew, so ongoing conditions stay covered. Time-limited and maximum benefit policies cap what you can claim per condition, either by time or by amount, after which that condition is no longer covered.

Usually not by standard policies, but a small number of specialist providers may offer some cover for conditions that have been symptom-free for a set period (often 24 months). Always check the policy wording before you rely on this.

We may earn a commission if you take out a policy via a link on our site. This never affects our rankings, and you never pay more than going direct to the provider; it simply helps us keep the comparison service free for pet owners.

We review our listings regularly as providers change their cover, pricing and offers, so you're always comparing current information.
